Cup sidebar: Fil-German ready for PBA
TAIPEI – Christian Standhardinger is now a free agent in the German league and he’s considering to make himself available in the PBA Rookie Draft.
“I have no concrete plans right now but the PBA is an option,” said Standhardinger after a third game with Gilas Pilipinas in the Jones Cup here.
A Fil-German with roots from Angono, Rizal, Standhardinger will automatically become eligible for the PBA draft once he renders service to the national team in a FIBA competition.
The 6-foot-8 cager, 28, said he’s heard the PBA long ago but has never thought of it “as there was seemingly no one interested in me.”
“The coach knows exactly the kind of player they want in a team. I’m glad I’m one of those they want now. Maybe in the past, I wasn’t ready yet or not yet good enough,” said Standhardinger, a US NCAA Division I product.

Mike Myers is not the kind of import that can dominate or take over the game as most of the PBA imports do.
But he can complement a team with his defense and rebounding, and that’s perfectly fine for the Gilas cadet team.
“He’s fit as we really don’t want an import that will dominate the game. We want our guys to run our system,” said Gilas assistant coach Josh Reyes.
