Boat capsizes off Basilan; 2 missing
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two persons were reported missing when a fishing boat capsized off Basilan yesterday.
Citing a distress call picked up by a passing ship, Lt. Cmdr. Alvin Dagalea, Philippine Coast Guard station commander, said the boat owned by Sunrise Fishing sank near Baluk-baluk island off Pilas island at about 4 a.m.
Dagalea said two crewmembers were rescued, but the captain and the chief mate have yet to be rescued.
Fishing boat MM Princess skippered by Rhofo Camatse and Elmil Cerad also sank off the waters of Tabina, Zamboanga del Sur on Friday. The crewmembers were stranded at a fish shelter.
Meanwhile, nine passengers of a motorized boat, including six children, were rescued when their boat capsized also off Baluk-baluk island on Friday afternoon after it was hit by big waves.
