MANILA, Philippines - For an industry that’s obsessed with change, fast fashion is still one of the biggest contributors to today’s environmental problems. You see, the culture of excessive consumption is as much of a culprit as the production process. And it’s not like we outrightly choose to ignore the fact that pollution is part of the production. But let’s be real. Living more consciously isn’t as effortless as we thought it would be. Lucky for us, groups like the Aboitiz Foundation never fail to remind us of the bigger picture.

Back for a second run in Manila, the Aboitiz Green Fashion Revolution (GFR) is happening on April 22, 3 p.m. at the SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier. This award-winning social initiative by the Aboitiz Foundation sparks the youth’s environmental concern by challenging them to create clothing, footwear, and accessories from recycled materials. Students from Asia Pacific College, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, SoFA Design Institute, and the University of the Philippines Diliman will be doing their part to raise awareness on the importance of waste management.

Besides concern for environmental issues, GFR is also about nourishing the creativity in today’s young generation. With the promising talent that was shown in the previous years, there’s hope that fashion can be greener on the other side.
