3 killed as NPA, soldiers clash

CAMARINES NORTE, Philippines – A woman and her two grandchildren were killed and another was wounded  in a clash between government troops and New People’s Army rebels in Masbate on Thursday.

Lolita Pepito, 70; Crislyn Pepito, 11, and Reden Pepito, 9, were caught in the crossfire when rebels positioned themselves in front of their house in Sitio Lubigan, Barangay Panan-Awan in Cawayan town.

Paulino Pepito, 70, was hit in the arm by a stray bullet.

Senior Inspector Malu Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said soldiers of the 3rd Scout Ranger Co. led by Lt. Karl John Cabillo encountered around seven rebels.

 Calubaquib said an undetermined number of rebels were wounded in the clash.
