P6-M shabu seized in CamSur
MANILA, Philippines - A kilo of shabu with an estimated street value of P6 million was seized during a raid in Barangay Del Rosario in Milaor, Camarines Sur on Sunday night.
McNiel Abines and his brother Tristan, said to be children of a retired policeman; Ivan Soreta, Meland Cabase, Bobby Pequit and Ben Araojo were arrested.
Noel Brigel, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency agent, said it was their biggest drug haul this year. The raid was based on a warrant issued by a court in Naga City.
Brigel said the suspects, who surrendered under an anti-drug program of the mayor’s office last year, were under surveillance for seven months.
“We will investigate to determine if the suspects have connections with other drug syndicates in Camarines Sur,” Brigel said.‘Narco’ cops
Meanwhile, eight more policemen and two agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in the Negros Island Region (NIR) were identified as among those receiving protection money from the Berya drug ring.
Ricky Serenio, the alleged paymaster of the group who was recently released from police custody, named the policemen and NBI agents in his affidavits. The identities of the accused were withheld pending the submission of their counter-affidavits.
Serenio said the policemen received between P40,000 to P120,000 a month from their group.
There are now 42 NIR policemen linked to the illegal drug trade.
In Rizal, eight more drug suspects were arrested in stings in Barangay Mayamot in Antipolo City and San Juan in Taytay also on Sunday.
