Investigate Cavite doctor’s slay, NBI told
MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II yesterday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a separate probe on the killing of a government doctor in Cavite last week.
“The director of the NBI is directed to submit a report... on the development and status of the investigation,” Aguirre said in Department Order 486.
Motorcycle-riding men shot Cavite provincial health officer George Rapique Jr. in Trece Martires at around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday last week.
The medical community condemned the killing and demanded justice for Rapique.
“We demand swift retributive justice for our beloved colleague,” Jesus Jardin, Philippine Hospital Association president, said in a statement.
Rapique was the third government doctor killed this year.
Dreyfus Perlas was shot dead in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte in March and ophthalmologist Sajid Sinolinding in Cotabato City in April.
