8 hurt in grenade blast

MAGUINDANAO, Philippines – Eight persons, including a mayor, were wounded in a grenade explosion at a mosque in Talayan town yesterday.

Datu Anggal Mayor Nathaniel Midtimbang and his father Kagui Ali, 62, had just emerged from the mosque after an obligatory prayer when unidentified men on two motorcycles hurled two grenades.

 Datu Anang Mupak, Sandy Aron, Manap Balumol and three others identified only as Kasim, Marcos and Makalanga were also wounded when one of the grenades went off.

The victims were taken to the Notre Dame Hospital in Cotabato City.

Senior Superintendent Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police director, said one of the motorcycles used in the attack was found abandoned along the highway in Barangay Mapayag in Datu Anggal.

Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman ordered ARMM police director  Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac to oversee the investigation into the attack.
