Lady Warriors turn back Discovery 5 in Rexona tilt
MANILA, Philippines - Chack Cabinbin sizzled for 26 points as University of the East-Cherrylume beat Discovery Sports, 69-58, to complete a seven-game sweep of the first Rexona Women’s Invitational tournament elims at the Buddhacare gym in Quezon City over the weekend.
Cabinbin highlighted her efficient shooting with four triples as the Lady Warriors rode on a big second quarter run to take control of the game and finish the elims unbeaten.
Janine Pontejos, who scored 23 markers in the team’s 75-67 win over Air Force last Saturday, drilled in two triples and finished with 17 points in the event presented by Rexona and organized by PCABL.
Reigning UAAP champion National University recovered from a shock defeat to UE last week as it routed Adamson-Mighty Sports, 80-48, behind the 16-point and 13-rebound performance of Rena Itesi.
The Lady Bulldogs, who registered a record 48-game winning streak in the UAAP, finished second with a 6-1 mark while Air Force wound up third with a 5-2 card following a 73-68 victory over Far Eastern University.
Meanwhile, Centro Escolar University clinched the fourth and last twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals after downing University of the Philippines, 66-58.
